Survivor Story

Bottom-up Therapy

I’m learning that a gentle touch
Is safe in this moment,
Even when a memory flashes forth,
Mixed signals telling me to tense,

Tapping through sensations,
Somatic healing through sensory stimulation,
Eyes moving closed,
Desensitizing images, reprocessing beliefs,

Stopping to breathe,
To focus on my therapist’s voice,
Knowing that days later I’ll find myself breathing lighter, clearer,
No longer reliving, but rather, relieved.
